Where We Started

  • 1999 Second Chance Scholarship Foundation established
  • 2003 The Foundation was incorporated on February 7, 2003 and subsequently received charitable organization status on June 3, 2003
  • 2005 March – Zanana Akande kindly hosted an evening at her home in support of purchasing books for our first Second Chance library
  • 2005 July – Faye McWatt Second Chance Library officially opened at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre (Youth Section)
  • 2006 February – Michael Tulloch Second Chance Library officially opened at the Sprucedale Youth Centre
  • 2006 February – The Right Honourable Michaӫlle Jean, Governor General of Canada attended a Black History Month event in support of our youth
  • 2006 December – Peter Cory Second Chance Library officially opened at the Bluewater Youth Centre
  • 2007 January – Melanie Bremner awarded the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship
  • 2007 June – Arthur Downes Second Chance Library officially opened at the Brookside Youth Centre
  • 2009 Rick Gosling Second Chance library established at the Roy McMurtry Youth Centre
  • 2011 August – Dwight Drummond generously hosted a wine and cheese fundraiser at his home in support of our youth
  • 2016 January – Rick Gosling awarded the Order of Ontario
  • 2017 December – R & B Singer Jully Black attended and spoke with the youth at the Roy McMurtry youth centre
