How can the Second Chance Scholarship Foundation reshape young lives?

Imagine a world where young adults can differentiate between right and wrong. A world where society does not fail the young adults leading them to resort to hate and anger. Imagine a world where young adults voluntarily wake up with the zeal to learn something new. Imagine a world where every young adult has a purpose and works towards it. That’s a world we all deserve; however, we live in a world where teenagers shoot strangers due to rage.

We live in a world where young adults destroy property to get some attention from their parents. What’s even more sad, is that these actions they take have harsh consequences and a record is created. Once that happens, it’s hard for them to get jobs because they do not have the funds to go to college. As a result, these teenagers who made a wrong judgement call, do not get a chance to redeem themselves, and end up again resorting to criminal activities.

Why should youth offenders get a second chance?

Human beings are bound to make mistakes and teenagers having a single parent or incarcerated parents seek attention. When they do not get the attention they engage in criminal activities out of spite.

Once the youth offenders are put into detention centres it becomes difficult for them to pursue a career in certain professions. Sometimes, they do not have the financial aid to receive such education.

An article published in the Journal Storage (JSTOR), states that “schooling significantly reduces the probability of incarceration and arrest.” Which is why it’s important to educate youth offenders. This is why they deserve a second chance as it gives them some purpose in life and will work hard to lead a good life.

How can the Second Chance Scholarship Foundation help?

The Second Chance Scholarship Foundation believes in the philosophy that education changes a life.

We are a charitable organisation that recognizes the youth in the criminal system and believes that if given a chance they will succeed. We have been helping such youth offenders for a few years now and glad to say our vision has been a success. Mary Anne Watson-Bonsall, an English teacher at the Brookside Youth Centre (Cobourg Ontario) had witnessed students stating their love for reading and one such student also stated that they would visit a bookstore for the first time when they go home. That’s what motivates our organisation to help.

Currently, we have the following scholarships that youth offenders can make use of:
